  • This may be three months old, but i thought i’d chime in here.

I was having this same issue and found the following thread:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-http-when-uploading-images-over-1139-pixels-in-width/

It seems like the issue is related to file size. So if it’s possible for you to shrink your image, i’d recommend trying that (i’ve commented in the above thread, so if you run into this issue, you can find my last comment there).

    Cheers

Follow up: I was able to successfully upload the file.

It seems it’s not the file dimensions, but the actual (byte) size of the file.

I didn’t test enough to get the exact size requirements, but i was able to upload a 122kb jpg, but not a 129kb file (just scaling the same pic). So i’m going to guess it’s around… 125-128kb that it ends up breaking.

So if you’re reading this and are having the same issue and none of the aforementioned solutions work for you, see if you can shrink the file to something in the 120kb range and try uploading that.

I hope this helps some people out there, because this was driving me nuts for many hours!

Is there any word on this?

I am having a similar issue (not sure if it’s the same as file size doesn’t seem to matter; everything fails)

    Http 404 on wp-admin/async-upload.php

    WP Version 5.2.4

async-upload.php exists in the correct path though.

Any attempt to upload files results in an unhelpful “Http image upload error”.

I’ve tried everything in the linked article, but none of the suggestions worked.

Please help. I’m not very good with PHP so i’m afraid i have no idea how to even debug further.
