In reply to: site troubleIt’s kind of unclear what you’re looking for. Do you have an existing site? If so, then you would install in the root or give WordPress it’s own directory and then convert any preexisting pages into WP pages. If you DON’T have an existing website then just install and start building.

In reply to: Latest wisdom on permalinks?I’ve never had problems with permalinks with ANY version. However, you can’t just upgrade from 2.2 to 2.7. You’re gonna have to work your way up.

In reply to: How to replace “.dot” with “-” in permalinks?People don’t seem to understand how easy it is to find things on Google, huh? I was thinking just last night how people use the same usernames for everything which makes them very easy to find.
dangerell + the-transporter-3-dvdrip takes you right to the site. Incidently, check this out. He/she is stealing images too:
http://www.rofree.com/filme/documentar/heath-ledger-a-tribute-2008-dvdrip-xvid-aaf/
which is ALSO a rip off site (if you click on the link it shows a big image saying “this image has been stolen from oneddl.com”). LMAO. I give up.

In reply to: How to replace “.dot” with “-” in permalinks?Call me slow but I just realized that “the.transporter.3.dvdrip is “The Transporter 3 DVD rip”. Which indicates that Dangerell is ripping DVD’s and making them available to the public. And then he told us he was doing it. Which makes me smile just a little bit.

In reply to: How to replace “.dot” with “-” in permalinks?Um… just don’t put the dots. Type out the title as “the transporter 3 dvdrip” and the permalink will be “the-transporter-3-dvdrip”

In reply to: How do I edit a post outside of wordpress?Ok Jeremy, I’ll respond to the other post here.
Friday evening I want to be able to download a backup of my WP blog to my laptop and make all my edits while I am away then upload when I return.
Are you saying you want to be able to manually write posts and then upload them when you have an internet connection again? That’s not possible. Everything is stored in the database and although you can download the database you can’t type posts directly into it. I’d suggest you just write your posts in notepad and save them and then copy and paste them over when you can 🙂

In reply to: How do I edit a file outside of WordPressyou can’t simply go into your server, find “the file” associated with Friday’s post, and edit and reupload.
Absolutely correct. Everything is stored in the database.
When I edit these post in wordpress I have to add a lot of extra little code to get proper paragraph breaks ect
Then there’s a problem and you need to fix it.

In reply to: publishing unsuccessfulIt may be an interesting question but you didn’t answer it. Again — Did you get a 404 error when you tried to publish the post or do you get a 404 error when you try to view the published post?

In reply to: Get more themes?!….2.3?!
If you look at your source code at the top, you can see what version WP you’re using 🙂
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: CAN NOT figure out themeswhat is in your /themes folder then? can you see the themes you did upload?
Well since there’s nothing in her public_html folder (which is impossible) there wouldn’t even be a WordPress folder let alone a themes folder (which is impossible).

In reply to: How do I edit a file outside of WordPressYou could copy the post from the edit screen in admin, paste into a PLAIN text editor, and then copy and paste the edited version over the original post. But why not just edit it in the admin area? And why do you say “post” as if you don’t really mean a post?
