Hi @scknurr, thanks for trying Jetpack Boost out.
I would be happy to investigate what’s gone wrong with Critical CSS on your site. I’ve successfully used Jetpack Boost with Elementor, and I don’t believe the two are incompatible.
Could you please let me know the URL of your site – and in particualr, the URL of page(s) that you saw issues on when Critical CSS was enabled?
If you would prefer not to disclose your site URL in these forums, please email us at JetpackBoost@Automattic.com, and include a link to this forum thread for context.
You don’t need to enable Critical CSS again for us to start investigating the issue – we can run the Critical CSS generator against the public HTML of your site to check the result for issues without affecting your site.
Hey @zotezo, thanks for your interest in Jetpack Boost!
No, you don’t need the main Jetpack plugin installed to use Jetpack Boost. The only thing you need is a (free) WordPress.com account to connect to.
I have run some tests with running Jetpack Boost and WP Rocket together, and haven’t found any significant issues.
Both plugins offer options to turn specific optimizations on and off, and some of the same optimizations are available in both plugins. I don’t recommend having the same optimization enabled in both plugins, as it is unlikely to benefit your site and may cause unexpected issues.
For example, I recommend against using Jetpack Boost’s “Defer Non-Essential Javascript” option at the same time as using WP Rocket’s “Delay JavaScript Execution” option.
WP Rocket also includes many customizable options, so there may be some combination of settings which can make it incompatible with Jetpack Boost.
If you find that any of Jetpack Boost’s optimizations cause problems on your site when run alongside WP Rocket, it should be safe to turn them off and return your site to its previous state.
Please let us know if you run into any trouble running Jetpack Boost, and we’ll do our best to help you out.
Thank you for the report.
I have investigated the issue, and discovered that we were not properly handling some of the
mediarules used by your theme, resulting in some incorrect CSS appearing in your Critical CSS.We will work on fixing the issue, and will aim to have a fix out in a release in the near future.
Thank you very much. We’ve received your email, and will follow up with you there.
Hi
Thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry to hear that you find the separation of plugins so frustrating.
While Jetpack Boost is a part of the Jetpack brand, we have no plans at this stage to merge the products together. At the moment, we feel that Jetpack Boost will serve its users best as a standalone product with a singular focus on improving the performance of users’ sites.
Are you concerned about the time involved in setting up new sites, or are you concerned that having multiple smaller plugins will have a different performance impact on your site than fewer, larger plugins?
Hi @kkow
You can send us links or images privately by emailing us at JetpackBoost@automattic.com. If you do email us more information, please include a link to this forum thread for context.
Thank you for experimenting with Jetpack Boost, and giving us such a useful report. I’ve managed to reproduce the issue with Critical CSS, but have not had luck reproducing issues with deferred JavaScript yet.
Based on my own experiments, it looks like Autoptimize’s “Aggregate CSS-files?” option is not compatible with Jetpack Boost. If that option is enabled, both plugins fight for control over how CSS is rendered and they end up in a tangle.
We’ll continue experimenting with the defer js issues, and will hopefully be able to address some of these issues in a future release.

In reply to: [Jetpack Boost - Website Speed, Performance and Critical CSS] iframe errorOh! I apologize, Mike – I misunderstood the context of the error you were describing.
I’ve tracked down the issue, and we will release a fix in the next version of Jetpack Boost (soon!)
Thanks for the report!
Hey, thanks for trying Jetpack Boost.
That error message can appear in your admin dashboard if our servers take too long to respond with a site score. Can you please try refreshing your Jetpack Boost admin page, to see if the same error occurs again?
It may be that generating a pagespeed report for your site is taking longer than our system expects. Would you mind letting us know the URL of your website, so that we can measure the time it takes to generate a pagespeed score?

In reply to: [Jetpack Boost - Website Speed, Performance and Critical CSS] iframe errorHey, thanks for trying Jetpack Boost out!
Jetpack Boost uses an invisible iframe to generate Critical CSS for your site. That iframe is configured with strict sandboxing rules for a few reasons; to help protect your admin dashboard from unexpected script execution, to ensure that scripts for tracking page views aren’t triggered (so we don’t mess up your stats), and to ensure that the Critical CSS we generate reflects the initial page-load content without external scripts affecting the layout.
Unfortunately, browsers tend to log those messages to the console to let developers know that resources are being blocked by the iframe’s sandboxing rules.
They aren’t a signal that anything has gone wrong; they just indicate that your browser is correctly enforcing the iframe sandboxing rules.
Thanks for trying Boost out, and for letting us know that you’re all set. 🙂
Hi there! Thanks for trying Jetpack Boost out.
That error message means that our servers can’t reach your site at its main Site URL. Can you double-check that your Site URL (Under “Settings -> General”) is configured to your site’s publically accessible URL?
If that doesn’t work, would you mind letting me know what your site’s URL is, so that I can investigate the issue further?
I’m happy to hear that it works on your production site.
I’m not able to reach https://www.pawzfurpets.com/dev – is that URL publicly accessible? Boost can only measure the performance of publicly accessible sites, as it needs to load the site remotely to measure its performance over a network.
Thanks for letting us know about the problem. It turns out that there is nothing wrong with your setup; our API servers were experiencing an outage.
I have fixed the issue on our end, so the Jetpack Boost plugin should now be able to caluclate your page speed score.
Please try again and let me know how you go.
