    Hi Fruitfly,

You are right. The PHP way with the ?=nn works. What I am saying in my previous post is that I activated numeric permalinks that makes it work this way:

    http://intheouter.net/archives/nnn

But then changed it to date and name based. However, some trackbacks that are left at different blogs are linking back to the numeric permalinks and are hitting a 404 page on my site.

As I said before I think it used to work. That is both the …/archives/nnn and the date/name-of-post ways used to work (I think). But now, definitely, it doesn’t work anymore and the numeric links are hitting a 404 error on my site.

Am I dreaming (that both used to work)? Can anyone help?

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions. This is the scoop. I think once upon a time, I had numeric permalinks set. And I did some trackbacks to other sites. Then when I changed over to date and name based, the numeric permalinks were still working. I thought cool. Two ways to access the posts! But somehow in my blog migration process and/or update to WP something changed and I suspect that it might have to do with .htacess file, but I am not knowledgeable enough about either permalinks nor of WP nor of .htacess file. Also I read the description about the plugin that FruitFly suggested, and even though I doubted it was the right solution, I downloaded and installed it just for the heck of it. Obviously it didn’t resolve the issue. Does anyone think that this issue could be resolved?

    Thanks!

Am I the only person who seem to have this problem? Does anyone even know what I am talking about? How do you deal with the e-mail notifications you receive right now from your blog? Are they correctly identified as from the person who submitted the comment or do you see these emails in your in-box as if they were sent from (by) your blog?

    OK, no takers?

Perhaps I will turn this in the form of a question:

“Is there a setting or perhaps a plugin available that will allow me to have new comments from my sent to my email address box that will have the author of the comments as the sender, so that I can hit reply and reply directly to the author of the comments from my email program?”

Actually this was how my blog used to work, but it no longer does. I suspect, as I said this changed after the version upgrade. But I am not so worried about the version as I am about the feature. Is there a way to get that feature back, either through a hack or through a plugin? Thanks for any suggestions!

    That makes sense. Thanks!

Yup. I can’t stand the WYSIWYG editor.

    But I found my problem.

Previously, I logged off my WP account and logged back in to no avail.

I had to close my Firefox browser for the changes to propagate (is that the right word?).

Wierd. But now that I understand the behavior, I can experiment some more! 🙂

(I have not updated this topic to resolved in case someone can explain why logging off WP and logging back on didn’t work but only closing the browser and reloading it worked)

OK, I managed to successfully import.

    First, this is my situation:
I exported from the following system: phpMyAdmin 2.6.3-pl1/MySQL 4.1.13 and trying to import to the following system: phpMyAdmin 2.6.4-pl2/MySQL 4.0.25.

When I exported, I followed the instructions as per the page above but I chose MYSQL40 Compatibility. Instead of saving to a file, I chose open with SQLScriptFile (Default). When the resulting file opens up in Notepad, I copied the file to WordPad (to ensure the linebreaks are there, so I can visually scan the file to ensure it is “all there”). Then I copied that file to the SQL Query text region, and hit GO.

After a few minutes, the successful import message beamed at me from the screen. I checked the resulting tables, and they all seem to be there, intact!

Now, to finish the migration! 🙂

Thanks! I read the page you referred to. Looks like some work to be done. I will mark this as resolved for now and find some time to do this later. Thanks again!

Thanks! That worked like a charm!

Oh, it turned out that my host upgraded Apache and it caused my WP to spew!

Thanks guys for the helpful comments.

The TTLB code is actually from the TTLB plugin that doesn’t poll the TTLB site. That works quite well I think. I will move the position of the Technorati code.

It does seem that I have problems most of the time when I publish a new post. Perhaps the database needs to be optimized? Or maybe it is the server or perhaps I might get better performance with another hosting company?

Thanks Kafkaesqui! That did it! I failed to put in the <?php endif; ?> and when I did I did not put in the “;” when I tried. Also I was doing it wrong by checking for if (is_home) and putting the code in the else section. That doesn’t quite work of course.

I did see other themes have a single.php, but did not know that just by having a single.php it will take care of itself (I thought I needed to call the file or something).

Now that you have enlightened me, I will go ahead and try to add a single.php to my theme.

    Thanks again!

    Yes, thanks, skippy. Resolved.

Ok, I found the answer by going to the Options Permalinks and found that I needed to “edit my .htaccess file” Since I am not sure what else I needed to do, I resurrected my .htaccess file from my 1.5.1.2 backup. That fixed the problem.

My question is, have I done any harm security wise to my install since that file was from the 1.5.1.2 version?
