Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: 2 days attempting the famous 5 minute installNow it seems to be working as it is supposed to be – podz had it from the beginning – Matt at SuccessfulHosting handled it even as I slept – very cool, those kids in Texas………..
got the following from Matt H this morning:
“The error message “Directry Listing denied” means that IIS is not going to list the contents of the directory. It has nothing to do with your script working or not. Since wordpress and phpbb are both PHP, they use a file called “index.php” as a default file, and IIS must be set to recognize this in the “Directory Indexes” option. The directory index specifies which file to try to open when you specify a folder, eg http://insight-power-systems.com/wordpress/ (no file specified). I have added index.php so that message should go away.”
“Please let me know if you have any further questions.”
——————-Best Regards,
Matt H.
the point being that it is indeed a common IIS phenomena rather than a WordPress failing and a Wordpres install might very well require this particular step if you are on a IIS server
I’ve seen a lot of posts re this particular roadblock for newbies while I was searching for an answer on the web – so I hope this helps – the famous 5 minute install could have been 5.5 minutes if I had just known this………………..
and thanks podz and the rest of you who responded so quickly

In reply to: 2 days attempting the famous 5 minute installre:
1) I’ll pass the first idea to the techies at Successful Hosting in Texas and see if they can make that work – I would really like to know how to set that myself though………….
2) the login link above only gives me the dreaded Directory Listing Denied page
3) adding index.php after wp-admin results in the admin page with the dashboard etc. – however I cannot view the page from there (Directory Listing Denied again) nor is it actually from logging in with a pw etc. – looks like anybody could get to it…………….another idea that was advanced was that WordPress was really designed for Linux servers and not Windows like I have it on – anybody know if there is anything to that ?
thanks for all the above efforts
