Thanks for your reply, Kadence. I uninstalled the theme using the file manager (and the Virtue tools plugin). I reinstalled the theme this morning, and it’s now working fine.
And you’re right. It appears that the customization all came back too.

Same error message referenced functions.php on line 10 on my site.
Same thing happened to me. I had to go into the the hosting control panel into MYSQL and change the template there back to twentyten to even get back in. Apparently WP 4.3 “Billie” doesn’t like Virtue.
And the WP 4.3 update was automatic, so I wasn’t expecting the site to be replaced by that fatal error on the login page. (But the site itself displayed OK)
