Error establishing a database connection
I get a wordpress page with the above message on it.

That is correct. I get a blank page when I go to
“yourdomain/family/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php”
When I go to “yourdomain/family” the web page displays a directory tree. As soon as I add “/wordpress” to the URL, I get a blank page.

WordPress has 4 directories. I basically unzip WP on my C drive then used WS_FTP to move the entire directory structure and files to my site. I did not place any files in the root.

The wordpress directories and files are in a subfolder. mydomain/family/wordpress
The intention is to password the family directory so that it’s access is limited to only those allowed. My son is in the Army and I want to have an easy way for family and friends to communicate with him without making everything public.
