I have deleted the plugin, the .htaccess file and reinstalled it fresh. I have copied the code from the “view code” button and pasted it below the standard friendly URL WP info in the .htaccess file.

Yet, I still have the alert.

Disk enhanced page caching is not active. To enable it, add the following rules into the server configuration file (/.htaccess) of the site above the WordPress directives . Or if permission allow this can be done automatically, by clicking here:

Hostgator recommended the plugin, but I’m losing time with no speed improvement so far. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    can anyone assist on this?

No matter what I do the WP admin still says the enhanced page cache cannot be activated unless code is put in the .htaccess fie.

I have put the code in the .htaccess file, and it continues to display the alert. Hostgator support worked on this for over a hour to now avail.

the whole .htaccess file is pasted below:

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /~geed/
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]

extra note: the site is currently running off it’s IP rather than the domain as it is not ready to go live quite yet.

stvwlf – now that sounds like a viable solution. I’ll check out the plugin you referenced. I have dropped the idea of creating our own plugin to my dev partner. Right now, there’s timing to deal with.

I agree with you on the expiration of posts. I do believe I’ve seen a plugin that can handle something like that. Will let you know if I come across it again.

That is a reasonably user-friendly method and one we’ve also considered and it would work. My problem with it is that their 9 year old CMS has had this simple feature from the beginning. Anything less, is a step backward for feature they’ve leveraged fairly heavily.

This is like the WP missing widget.

    stvwlf –

Have been considering custom fields. While the options you mention are legit, neither is user-friendly for the client who’ll manage the site. They need to be able to simply paste/type a url and “attach” links to a page/post. Typing HTML is not an advancement for their site’s manage features.

I really can’t believe there isn’t already a widget to add links to specific pages/posts. Seems like it would be a common need. Like a link “gallery” for a page/post.

Clearly one can add links right in content. But the objective here is for them to appear in the sidebar.

Seems we could set up 5-10 custom fields, each being a link input. Paste/type url, done. The catch is you have a limited number.

I too would like the option to override the partent page title with a custom title. However, you can solve the last item you mentioned by simply adding a space after whatever title prefix you add….like “Custom[space]Parent Page Title.”

@mattyrob – thanks for the input. It does seem that the current state of spam prevention is scuttling the idea of HTML mail unless it’s delivered by the big players such as Constant Contact etc.

Especially if our own server may be tagging it on the way out.

I really like the features of your system. The spam and the excerpt only to the public subscribers are big hurdles from a client perspective. Spam is hard to overcome and they don’t want to open the site up to registration.

Anybody have any input on this?

Does anyone have a resource that covers this issue?

Perfect! Thank man. It was the syntax of the function itself.

    Thread Starter squidz

    (@squidz)

hehe…after popping it in above the loop and added the <?php endif; ?> it needed to let the page load, I realized it needed to be conditional. I’ve been trying to work it in just as you show above, in place of the hard coded banner that I had in the conditional.

But it creates a syntax issue that I haven’t gotten past. I did find that there is a plugin called Widget Logic which add conditional fields to all widgets. Pretty nifty. But I was still trying to see if it would work without that extra plugin.

Thanks BODA82. I’ll try it out! Really just getting into PHP and making WP do stuff outside of the box. Hadn’t realized creating a widget was so simple.

Beauty! Thanks esmi. I was in the ballpar, but way outside the foul pole…just kept breaking the page with my trial and error approach. I need to get up to snuff on syntax and general PHP know-how.

I see you set a counter, which is what I was trying to do. Can you explain a bit about they syntax of what you put in the WP_Query(‘category_name’. $cat_name . ‘&showposts=3’)?

Is the .$variable. just a normal syntax to inject a variable you preset before the query into a string?

I’m curious if you ever found a good solution for this? I am also looking for a solid Profile Page plugin that allows users (company staff, attorneys, etc) to create their page, include photo, v-card, downloadable files and their bio info.
