Hi @forthinc
Thanks for reaching out!
The functionality you’re referring to isn’t available in the free version of the plugin. To have variation images properly recognized and excluded from the “Unused” list, you would need to upgrade to the Pro version.
If you’re already using the Pro version and still facing this issue, please submit a support ticket directly from the plugin dashboard so our team can take a closer look and assist you further.
Appreciate your understanding!
Hi @tsheridan,
We just wanted to follow up on your query.
As we haven’t heard back from you, we’ll go ahead and mark this support thread as resolved for now.
To summarize — the message you’re seeing is expected behavior. The free version of Media Hygiene does not support detection for Elementor Pro, which is why it prompts you to upgrade. Additionally, the compatibility note regarding specific Elementor Pro versions applies to both free and Pro versions due to changes in how newer versions handle media data.
If anything is still unclear, or if you’d like us to take another look at your setup, please feel free to reopen the thread — we’ll be happy to assist further.
Thanks again for reaching out!
Best regards,
Media Hygiene TeamHi @forthinc,
Just following up on this — we haven’t heard back from you, so we’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved for now.
As mentioned earlier, the “Media Items Displayed Per Page” setting currently applies only to the main dashboard scan. Folder scans use a fixed pagination limit at this time.
We understand this can be a bit limiting, and it’s something we may consider improving in a future update.
If you’re still experiencing issues or have any additional questions, please feel free to reopen the thread — we’ll be happy to assist.
Thanks for your understanding!
Best regards,

In reply to: [Media Hygiene: Remove or Delete Unused Images and More!] Works!Hi @patashnik,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience — we really appreciate it!
We’re glad to hear the plugin worked well for you and that the cleanup process went smoothly. It’s especially helpful that you tested your site afterward and confirmed everything remained intact — that’s exactly the kind of careful workflow we recommend.
Your note about adjusting the results per page and using the bulk delete option is also valuable for other users, so thanks for highlighting that.
We understand that experiences can vary depending on how media is used across different sites, and feedback like yours helps provide a more balanced perspective.
Thanks again for your support!

Media Hygiene TeamHi @mikoba,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback — it’s genuinely appreciated.
You’re absolutely right in pointing out this limitation. Media Hygiene currently relies on attachment data to determine whether a file is “used,” and in WordPress, media can be utilized in many ways (reused across posts, embedded via builders, shortcodes, or custom fields) without being formally attached to a specific post. In those cases, the plugin may flag such files as unused even though they are still in use.
This is a known challenge due to how WordPress handles media relationships, and we understand how this can reduce the plugin’s usefulness, especially for sites with large or complex media libraries.
We’re actively exploring ways to improve detection beyond attachments — including content scanning and broader usage checks — while keeping performance and reliability in balance.
In the meantime, we recommend using the results as a guide rather than a definitive list, and double-checking important files before removal.
Thanks again for your honest input — it helps us improve the plugin for everyone.
Best regards,

Thanks for the review. Yes, we do charge for the pro version because we have to keep up with the other ongoing changes in software.
After all, if it doesn’t work, how upset do you think you will be or how long do you think it will take you to manually remove each unused media file one by one?
Again, thank you for trusting your website to our plugin. We plan on some new features soon!
@ricedean We have replied you via email.
