    thank you very much-FYI turned out my server placed a patch back in 2012 for some reason unknown to the tech who found it. This caused the visual editor not to display. Now the patch has been disabled…it works. thanks for your ideas.

    so here is what ive done;
    1. I uploaded latest version to my existing perfectly working WP site that’s when I lost visual editor.
    2. I created a brand new WP site (+ new MySQL DB) downloaded another fresh latest version with no plugins or themes and still no visual editor.
    3. I tried all the themes to no avail.
    4. called my host and now using php 5.3 still not working.
    5. deleted wp-includes and wp-admin and reinstalled latest version with no effect.
    6. going to try yet another fresh install just in case files are corrupting on the upload.
    🙁

    no worries Mike…that fix got me excited too but that unfortunately did not work either…in Profiles it does have a box to turn off visual editor which if clicked removes the tab as well. In my case the tab is there but no tools appear…

    Tried that no luck. If you are stumped im starting to worry lol.
    Is going back to the older version a solution?

    I did call my host and asked them if they could help…they updated the htaccess file to use php.5.3 version but that did not work either. I have checked an older website using wordpress 4.1 version and visual editor works on that site.

    No error messages appear in red in Chrome. changed theme to test but no luck. What’s weird is my problem resulted after updating to the newest wordpress version. When that messed it up I was willing to start from scratch and created a new site and uploaded a fresh version in a different folder and still no visual editor. If it is server related what might the issue be?
