It is a problem with the events calendar plugin. Use the plugin WP Rollback to change the events calendar version to 4.6.20.1 – then the featured images return!
I have the same problem. All over sudden, the featured images ar no longern shown in the event list. I am running Version 1.08. of the plugin.
