Thanks for the info, what a pain its been.
I just “cleaned” my site and it is now backup and fully operational.
Had to first backup and then delete the mySQL DB
I then deleted the files then reinstalled the latest version of WordPress and re-uploaded a copy of my custom theme.
Seems to be fine now.
