In reply to: Plugin ProblemDid you check to see if you had a nested folder Plugin/plugin. It will not appear unless you only put the inside folder. If that’s not the problem, hopefully someone else will help you cuz that’s all I got 🙂

In reply to: Endless spam on postsActivate the Akismet plugin and use it. Then look for the area in your options page where you could list spam words, and list them. There is list of spam words somewhere on wordpress. Do a search. Akismet should take care of 99% of the problem though.
Also, if you turned comments off, there should be no way you’re getting more spam on those comments. So I don’t know…

Thank you for your advice. Wp-forum doesnt suit my needs. I need something like smf. But how to I wrap it into my site’s design? I want the forum to fit within a wordpress page so that it looks like the rest of my site.
Keep the advice coming!

In reply to: Changing homepageYou need to be more specific with your question. The topic is titled “changing homepage” so I’m guessing you want to do just that. You don’t need to edit any files. It should be an option in your admin menu (if your have wp 2.1). Poke around and learn where everything is back there.
If you need to change the style of your website, that should be done all with your css stylesheet (style.css).
Hope that helps 🙂

In reply to: Sidebar Falls To The BottomDid you try fixing the tags? Also, it’s not necessarily css that’s doing it. Check the posts in code mode for anything out of the ordinary. Using the rich editor can produce weird code sometimes. That’s what fixed it for me.

In reply to: Sidebar Falls To The BottomI had this problem a while back. It happened after I wrote a post that had bad coding. Think back to the last post you wrote before the sidebar went down. Check it in code mode for any funky coding. remove the coding, or the post entirely (make it a draft). Let me know if it works.

Thanks for your well thought out comments! I would like to go with a free solution. I’ve been looking at phpbb, smf, and bbpress as some options. I’ve been leaning toward smf.
I know there is an integration method for the registration, but what about design? I’m sure some wordpress members have already figured out how to integrate the external forum software into their design. I think many people would benefit from such a tutorial or post here.
I’m looking forward to getting some more great advice 😉
