Unfortunately, I can’t switch the theme since the client wants to stay with what they currently have…I agree that these themes are junk though…Was just hoping that someone out there has created a fix for this since it is an out of the box theme that would seem fairly popular.

I am looking for the same thing, I have tried to do something custom to add an overlay and cannot get it to work. Do you have any recommendations for the custom CSS that would allow for this?
