I am also using H1 for SEO reasons
B or SPAN tag are useful for styling (CSS) reasons.
I have a similar problem :
I uncheck the sharing option in the post settings but it’s not being saved in the database 🙁

Fixed it by moving one of the YARPP template file to my theme directory
DId you check your file permissions ?
Same issue with latest WP release (running with multisites)
Any idea ?
