No worries – found another way. I was using GFWA as I needed the quote to appear in a footer widget, and it seemed the easiest option.

But instead I created a custom loop and used the PHP Code Widget http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/php-code-widget/ to drop the loop directly into the footer widget itself. Sweet.
