Confirming the cause: WordPress 7.0 changed .media-toolbar-secondary from float/inline-block to a fixed 2×2 CSS Grid. EML injects its search field, reset button and author/taxonomy filters into that container without grid areas, so they fall into implicit auto-placement and create the extra rows. Functionality is unaffected; it’s visual only.
Two fixes work: replace the grid with flexbox-wrap, or extend the grid-template with explicit grid areas for the injected elements.
