  • Updated situation: Audio Player still does not work for me. I continue to get the endless “Buffering…” message on a four second mp3 file. I have tried on both Firefox 3.0.5 and IE7 with the latest Flash Player (10,0,12,36), but neither work.

Furthermore, when I click on the “Audio Player” button from the Media Library, the Link URL shows up only for a fraction of a second before disappearing. Despite this problem, I can hit Control+Z in the Link URL field to bring back the URL, but upon clicking “Insert into Post”, I get the following in my Editor:
    <a href="[audio:http://www.startupcafe.org/dev/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/test.mp3]">test</a>
Which becomes this when viewing the post:

    <p><a href="
<p class="audioplayer_container"><span style="display:block;padding:5px;border:1px solid #dddddd;background:#f8f8f8" id="audioplayer_1">Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version <a href="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&amp;promoid=BIOW" title="Download Adobe Flash Player">here</a>. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.</span><script type="text/javascript">AudioPlayer.embed("audioplayer_1", {soundFile:"aHR0cDovL3d3dy5zdGFydHVwY2FmZS5vcmcvZGV2L2Jsb2cvd3AtY29udGVudC91cGxvYWRzLzIwMDkvMDEvdGVzdC5tcDM"});</script></p>
    <p>“>test</a></p>

When I click play, I get directed to a 404 error because the hyperlink tries to follow “>p class=”. If I manually type [audio:http://www.startupcafe.org/dev/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/test.mp3%5D, I still end up with endless buffering.

I am not familiar with Flash at all, so I wouldn’t even know where to start looking for problems with the Audio Player, but I hope that my description can help sort this out.

I am using WordPress 2.7 on the default theme with no other plugins active.

Podcasting has that audio player built-in, but I can try it by itself to see if the results are different. At this point, I am suspecting server issues, like a bad PHP config/build – mime_content_type() is not defined on my server. =/

Does anyone have any recommendations here? I have made a fresh install of WP2.7 and installed ONLY Podcasting on it and it still just sits and says “Buffering…”. So far, I have read nothing that has solved my problem.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Even alternative MP3 players or podcasting software suggestions would be welcome to see if any of those would work.

    More information:

After reading the Audio Player Troubleshooting page, I checked the possible problems listed.

    1. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1
    2. I am running Firefox 3.0.5
    3. I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed (10,0,12,36)
    4. I have 5 Firefox windows open with at least 50 tabs total, so it is possible that there are multiple instances of Flash Player running

The presence of Windows and Firefox 3 indicate a possible failure of Audio Player, but Flash Player 10 supposedly fixed this problem. Could this be a permissions or server configuration problem? If so, what kind of things should I look for?

The site is hosted by GoDaddy. Has anyone else had problems with GoDaddy and Audio Player or Podcasting?

    darrell,

Did you solve this? If so, how? This problem (endless buffering) is driving me batty!

After reading this and many others, and posting this, I still cannot get the Audio Player in Podcasting to do anything besides sit there and say “Buffering…” forever.

What are the common causes of endless buffering and what can I look at to try to fix this problem? Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

    Jules1247,

You wrote about “endless buffering”. I am currently having this problem too with the audio players from both podPress and Podcasting. The audio test on your blog works when I click play, so what did you change to get it to work? How did you get it to play instead of getting stuck buffering?

    Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about problems where the audio players from both podPress AND Podcasting won’t play MP3 files? The blog I’m trying to get up and running is here:

    http://www.startupcafe.org/blog/

Akismet somehow missed something as obvious as “FREENUDETEENGIRL.COM” as a spam comment. Twice. Perhaps it’s because it was presented as “_FREENUDETEENGIRL_._COM_.”, but that still seems like unreliable detection to me. I’m hoping that given a short period of time this will improve.

That being said, I am also looking for a supplementary plugin to Akismet as a precaution.

I forgot to mention exactly what happens when I try to play the audio files. Basically, using either plugin (podPress or Podcasting), the audio player that each plugin uses gets stuck at “Loading” (podPress) or “Buffering” (Podcasting). I’ve read about “infinite/endless buffering” problems, but I did not see a solution. Maybe I missed it because I was tired when I looked, but any help here would be appreciated.

Testing on Firefox 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 on Windows XP Pro SP2, IE7 on Windows Vista Home SP1, and FF 3.0.5 on Windows Vista Home SP1. I don’t know the flash player versions of those respective machines, but it can easily be assumed that they are version 9 or above.
