Does this also mean that when you saved this setting to “administrator” it automatically sets it to a custom role when you load the “other options” panel?
I have a comparable problem and I can exactly reproduce it.
I have custom user roles as well.
When I change settings in “other options”, the settings for user roles in the Nextgen settings are set to a custom user role. When I manually reset all these settings to the default admin settings and then press save, it keeps working. It seems that the NGG other options panel has a preference to the last added user role.
When I forget to check the NGG roles settings and edit something in the other options panel (like tumbnail options or lightbox effects) , I am screwed. I need the NGG reset plugin to get access again.
Hope this is helpful to find a fix.

I found the problem.
When I install the plugin “ultimate member” there is a conflict with MaxGalleria.If you do not have or had this plugin installed, there is no problem.
Problems start with this combination of plugins.Hope this is helpful to you.

I tried to give my wordpress a total reset.
I made a fresh install of MaxGalleria and the Virtue theme.Everything is now working!
I do not know what happened before, but everything works excellent!

I tested it to switch my site to another theme. Unfortunately it is not working with another theme too.
Do you have any other ideas why it may be not working?Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, I deleted all my plugins I do not need, until only Maxgalleria and my theme were left. Unfortunately, this did not work out.
Do you have any other suggestions left?

I am also not able to delete folders with the MLP.
When I delete them manualy by FTP, they still exist in MLP.
