Done a little check on standard WordPress custom fields on post items, but indeed they also are not exposed in the REST API. So I think that’s more an REST API thing, but there’s an hook to add custom stuff to the REST API witch probably can be used. Little scan also showed an (old) plugin for combining REST API and Custom Fields. Have not looked further in that because the meta:image_meta usage solved the issue for now.
The MLA Development Version corrects indeed the problem of reading the actual value from a meta:image_meta field. Nice work, handy plugin. Thanks!
