First, WordPress.org makes it difficult to find themes without endlessly going through page after page.

There has been talk to add a bbpress tag for sorting inside of the feature filter in the features area. There is already a BuddyPress one i wonder why there isn’t a bbPress one yet though. Hopefully this will be added to help users find bbPress compatible themes.

Ipage tech support said it was my browser and everything would work great if I used Chrome. My puter is an old D630 Latitude and still runs great on WXP. It is maxed and cooks along quite well, but Chrome would break its little legs.

If you are using Internet Explorer 8 or less expect some sites are expected to not look good since Web Designers are more and more not supporting IE 8 and below. As for your computer you probably need more RAM/Memory to help speed up your computer.

I also do not know what BBPress’ intended purpose is.

Simple and light forum system for WordPress.

Generally, what I remember being unaccommodating as a first time user, is inability to…

Most of what you listed with the asterisk sounds very custom to you, its just minor touches. It probably would be better if you hired a web designer to make something custom/tweak your theme for you instead of looking for a theme to have everything you want. I know that this whole topic is about not wanting to use bbPress unless you were a developer, but what you want tweaked is all in your theme. In design , bbPress just inherits some styles from your theme, the rest of bbPress adds that sweet sweet community functionality.

Maybe that is how it is, and I have BBPress functionality confused with theme features? In any case, it was not definitively clear which was which.

Yeah you kind of did. All that you said with fonts, sidebar positioning , re-sizing header height should be in a theme because all that code that renders what font to use and the header height is usually in the themes anyway and not in bbPress.

As a first time end user, whether it be BBPress or theme related, consistent flexibility is what I am not experiencing.

Hopefully some damn good theme developer makes something fantastic for bbPress.

I don’t know if any of this input helps, or if I joined the majority of unreasonable users who expect too much. Mostly I resent being cornered into using applications that don’t allow individual customization without learning a ton of coding.

It kind of helped, made me realize that there isn’t any guides to help theme developers and what they could do with bbPress. There is some for basic styling and theme compatibility , but not really diving into the code to help them.

Rethinking all of this in writing released a bit of steam. Thank you for asking and listening.

    no problem.

No problem , is it okay if I ask for some input on some improvements you would like to see in a bbPress compatible theme??

Do you think that bbPress compatible themes should allow customization through the Customizer to style the bbPress area of the theme??

bbPress does allow a good start with theme compatibility , but it might help if users would have an easier time customizing their theme with bbPress.
Maybe create good bbPress compatible child themes of some of the WordPress default themes like the twentytwelve and so on??

For now this is what i see that will help users customize their bbPress compatible theme and hopefully there will be improvements in the future.

For great bbPress compatible themes we have these three great examples.

    https://wordpress.org/themes/eighties/
    https://wordpress.org/themes/stargazer-colloquium/
    https://wordpress.org/themes/wp-knowledge-base/

This plugin that is pretty good at helping style individual elements in bbPress.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-style-pack/

And maybe I could write some Codex articles on bbpress.org to help Theme Developers create bbPress Compatible themes.

since you can see my notes, you will notice the attempt to cancel my Ipage account

I was talking about your profile here https://profiles.wordpress.org/cscolvin , i didn’t mean whatever conversations you had with your hosts support team.

You should have contacted the bbPress support team at the official support forum https://bbpress.org/forums/ about any bbPress issues, because host team support might not know about every WordPress plugin and the support wouldn’t be as good in that area.

Contacting host team support about anything related to all this should be fine.

    • manually installing some software
    • configuring some PHP software
    • setting up mailhosting
    • using FTP to transfer files

Other than all that you shouldn’t have much of a problem installing bbPress.

You go to the WordPress back-end go to plugins > add new

then you will see a page of featured plugins and bbPress is one of them , then you can install from there no problem.

Make the search form on the forum was on every page of the forum.

I added a PHP code snippet to allow the forum search to be above single topics and single forums.

    https://codex.bbpress.org/layout-and-functionality-examples-you-can-use/#23-show%c2%a0the-bbpress-forum-search-everywhere

in the address bar at this point site.ru/forums/threads/…/
In all other places breadcrumbs display normally. Bread crumbs from “wordpress seo by yoast”.

That is an issue with Yoast’s breadcrumbs , its a very common issue reported for them.

ps .: okay since the imposition, well you though setting colors add to the admin panel, at least to enter the hex for example, and better implement ajax.
Simply another forum engine put in a folder, and so terribly small and ancient ((

I am kind of not sure what you are saying here but i think you are saying you want better forum customization maybe in the customizer area of a theme??

I am sure any good theme developer could add this type of functionality. Hopefully in the future they do.

For now there is this plugin for bbPress customization.

The only issue I am aware of with twentyfifteen and bbPress is that when you search using the forum search it functions incorrectly.

But that could be easily fixed by copying all the bbPress templates into a child theme of twentyfifteen.

    https://codex.bbpress.org/theme-compatibility/

And all paid WordPress support has to say about it is, “I’ll be glad to connect you with our design team”.

I don’t know where you are getting this from. There was no direct comments saying this to you from what i could see in your WordPress profile.

I would help you if you still need any help.

Worse is that some of the topics in the forum fail to be linked in its own bbpress search results.

bbPress search could be enhanced with some plugins or custom functionality to search through its taxonomies, but by default its as simple as the default WordPress search.

Styling this plugin well is extremely not easy.

if you have a good understanding of how CSS works its so easy its ridiculous

Plus there is some bbPress plugins that help style your bbPress forums.

If you would’ve made a topic at bbpress.org i would’ve helped you out.

You’d notice that all bbPress forums look almost the same as its own, with only minor touches.

    So does any forum software.

bbPress has a default look that requires to either be customized with a plugin to help style your forums, or a WordPress theme to create a custom bbPress layout.

We have been struggling with the extremely limited capabilities of bbPress and rigidity of its structure.

usually when people say capabilities they mean the feature set of the software, but bbPress can use some plugins to add quotes, ratings, drag and drop ordering, signatures , bbcodes, link a forum to a custom link, user suspension, custom avatar , and tons more. There might be other features that are not yet a plugin but could be considered for the plugins core.

When people usually say structure , most of the time they mean the traditional category layout that other forum software have, and we already have a couple of ways to have this type of functionality.

Other than all that, sorry you feel dissatisfied with your experience of the bbPress plugin.

    Robkk

    (@robkk)

sorry your experience didnt turn out well with this plugin.

just to note your login details for bbpress.org are the same as this site, so you could have of easily logged in no problem to create a support topic and i would have probably helped you on this issue.

and there is also not that many developers as some might think

i will go to the ticket Stephen made in the bbPress trac and place the plugin you mentioned there for anyone having the same issue as you have had and hopefully the devs will add this to core.

if you need help styling bbPress create a topic at the bbPress support forums.

    https://bbpress.org/forums/new-topic/

just to point out Lion70 those other software you mentioned works like that because all the content is hosted somewhere else and you get an iframe to display that content on your site.

bbPress has its content on your site/host and is easier to customize than the other two you mentioned, because customizing iframe content is hard unless you customize specific settings on the softwares site , which might end up being a paid service.

You found a topic that was unresolved , the bbPress community cant resolve ALL topics that comes through there.

go and create a topic here, and i will pick it up when you post.

    https://bbpress.org/forums

make sure to leave a link to your website.

images to help show the issue

and a good description about the issue.

oh nevermind i just found out haha

it should be something like this.

    example.com/?random&random_post_type=product

    and this for categories

    example.com/?random&random_cat_id=7

now i just cant figure out how to get a random author , i see the codes there but i cant find it out.

i think its this but i cant get it to work right

    example.com/?random&random_author_name=userloginname

well i did a little research and i did see that Bruteprotect shows a captcha as fallback protection if my site cant reach their API.

Im just really wondering now what else could you guys use with the Recaptcha library that is in Jetpack other than the Email share button??

    Thread Starter Robkk

    (@robkk)

well im trying to get the most out of Jetpack , and i have gotten pretty far by dropping a few plugins and replacing them from what i see Jetpack already has built into it.

but i guess the most important to me would to hook it to the WordPress registration form and the lost password form.

login form maybe but i never really use captcha on the login form.

and the WordPress comment form if the Jetpack comments module is disabled and only show it to anonymous users posting to better fight off comment spam with Akismet.

Its not really something i care for being private or not, so ILL just post a random link here in which the post only has a 1 tag and its the featured tag.
