Yes, keesiemeijer, I did all that. There weren’t any mod_rewrite rules in my .htaccess file just the basic WP pretty permalink ones. I did all the deletion in numbers 5 and 6 above. The wp-super-cache folder doesn’t exist in my plugins directory.
All my WordPress files are vanilla 3.1 now as I have deleted
define( 'WP_CACHE', true );from wp-config.phpI’m not getting any error messages now, but when I activate Under Construction plug-in, when I get the following:

Use roles and capabilities instead. in /home/robcub2/iegoa.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3387… which is really weird as I have it working with other installs of WP 3.1
And, when I activate the new, premium, version of WPML I get multiple error messages (see above) with my custom theme. But with 2010 and WPML, I get “The plugin generated 756 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.” .. and the plug-in doesn’t work properly. (All plug-ins with my custom theme worked perfectly pre 3.1).
However, they’re releasing another WPML upgrade on Monday. But their forum isn’t besieged with people with the same problem so I really don’t know what went wrong.
Thank a lot for your help, as always.
Now I understand, the fix is only for the WP install, the plug-in is still well and truly worthless with WP 3.1 – if anyone comes up with a way of adding more than one featured image (ie an image that has a fixed height and width to a post or page), I’m all ears.

underConstruction plug-in get error messages even though it works on other 3.1 site I’ve got.
WPML is a complete mess and they’re releasing another upgrade on Monday. So I’m along way from solving this problem. But thanks for all your help.
There’s a potential fix for this posted here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-31-master-list?replies=21 but I don’t understand it:
The “multiple-post-thumbnails” plug-in breaks the WP-install after doing the upgrade to 3.1. The database doesn’t upgrade.
Fix: Rename your theme so the default theme will be loaded. Then you can do the database upgrade. Then delete the second post-thumbnail size in your theme’s funcions.php and the call to the function in the theme files. Rename your theme back to the old name and your site should be up and running again. At least this worked for me.Surely if you delete the second (and third?) post-thumbnail size in your theme’s functions.php and the call to the function in the theme files then the plug-in is worthless anyway?

However, underConstruction plug-in is still a problem.

The ” define( ‘WP_CACHE’, true );” line was in wp-config.php I just didn’t see it. Sorry!
Now I’m getting other errors when I try to activate other plugins.

I don’t understand it though. I don’t have the WP Super Cache plug-in activated nor even in the plug-in directory.
I’ve just deleted the following lines from wp-settings.php

WP_DEBUG ? include( WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/advanced-cache.php’ ) : @include( WP_CONTENT_DIR . ‘/advanced-cache.php’ );and it’s got rid of the error message. I’m sure this is a short-term solution but I’m going to reactivate plug-ins and my old theme now and see how I get on.

It would seem so, allyweb, I had this problem but now I can’t get my whole 3.1 installation working properly after upgrading and the problem started with same error message from functions.php about Multiple Post Thumbnails.
So if you sort this one out, let me know!

In reply to: Can't get into admin after upgrade to 3.1Thank you again, keesiemeijer, I actually don’t think I ever had Super Cache plug-in ever activated on that site so I can’t understand why I’m getting these error messages about it.
Maybe I’m better off going back to the previous version of WP and getting rid of Multiple Post Thumbnails Plugin and starting again as that is where I suspect the original problem was.

I am able to get the site working although with error messages.
I think the problem is using the Multiple Post Thumbnails plug-in with 3.1 it seems not to work.
I have all the plug-ins deactivated and I’m running 2010:

In reply to: Templates for posts?I flamenco, I explained this really badly. Apologies.
I have a single.php and page.php in this theme. What I meant was whether I could get post A and B to look different in the same way as you can get page A and page B to look different with page templates.
But I think I can do this with categories. I can use conditional tags in single.php to say “if it is this category do this” “if it is that category do that” etc., an assign categories to posts that I want to look a certain way when viewed with single.php.
