My theme was loading an outdated version (v1.8.24) of jquery-ui.min.js, located in the js directory of my theme.
I replaced the old version of jquery-ui.min.js with the new version (v1.10.4)from http://code.jquery.com/ui/, from the “minified” link.
After I cleared my browser cache, the date picker started working.
