I used this plugin and I came across this post as I originally had the same question as I wanted to just show the excerpt.
I investigated the code and it doesn’t use the excerpt at all, it simply splits the post at the <!–more–> statement.
I’ve modified the plugin for my own private purposes to have an optional excerpt command where it uses the proper excerpt.
