We have the answer….and a solution!
My host advised me that there is an ongoing brute force attack going against WP sites (for over 6 months) and that it just happened to hit the server I am hosted on….The host server blocked it and all access to wp-admin and wp-login files on all WP sites on the server, with a fictitious redirect.

We changed the admin file name for login to something that a bot won’t look for….everything works great with the renamed filename.

I will go after my host again and see what happens…. and update/close this once I have it resolved. Thank you…

Yes, and received a partial answer in that everything ‘appears’ to be okay with my site on their end. They do not show any suspicious activity, nor any file names being changed or deleted, nor any ‘admin’ activity on my site since I logged in 2 days ago.

However, they are searching further and will get back to me if they find anything. They have not heard of anything quite like this either.

I may just have to reset the whole blog!

I can not access the menu to let me into all the plugins that are installed (or were originally installed) to de-activate them.

The whole left menu is gone…completely.

All that I can see in the top (drop-down type) menu is the sub-menus for NEW (posts/pages etc), the menu for comments, the menu showing “theme update”…..and that is all.

When I check the “Theme update” page, it only shows that my “plugins are all up to date” but I can not access the “plugins” page to deactivate anything.

I am at a loss here…. Never seen anything like it before. The whole area where the left hand menu should be is just white empty space.

    Hmmm…..but I can’t deactivate the plugins …
    I can’t login to wp-admin

I can login to cpanel and file manager.

I think I ‘might’ have to reinstall WP and hope that my database of articles etc. will stay intact.

Is there a backdoor into wp-admin that I don’t know about?
All I have done to try is using my site name and /wp-admin after, but it gives me a 404 error page 🙁
