The HideIt and HideThese and WP-UCanHide plugins work well, but aren’t quite what I’m looking for. These plugins do a good job of hiding the text when you’re not logged in, but they still allow the user to access the post page when they are not logged in. Once you’re on the post page, you just see the excerpt when not logged in.
Ideally, a user would be directed to a login page when they click a “Read more” button or the headline to an article, unless they are already logged in.
If there was a way to even protect certain pages, that would be perfect. For instance, when you go to a post, it loads the single.php file from the theme. If there was some if statement I could put in that checks if the user is logged in and if so, writes the post, else writes a login form.
Would you happen to know of any good excerpt controlling plugins? On the main page I want to have 4 of the latest posts, with the most recent post more prominent, and the next 3 below it. For each, I want an excerpt of the text and an image icon to the left of the text. For the most recent, the icon would be larger, and the headline bigger font.

I’ve used the search on this site many times. I couldn’t find a plugin that explicitly requires a login to read the full article but allows main pages to be loaded with excerpts. All that link you provided me with shows is custom login plugins and plugins that fully restrict the site from being viewed to anyone who isn’t logged in.
If you meant to honestly be helpful, I’m sorry. I was just posting to see if anyone knew some good plugins perchance. I know how to search, the results just weren’t as fruitful as I hoped so I decided to post a request. I thought my question was pretty specific… I need exactly those functionalities.
Please respond if you’ve run across any plugins that have these abilities or are close and can be modified. Despite my noob-like necessity of asking questions, I know how to work some coding…

In reply to: Does anyone know good plugins for these…I also need to have, on the front page, an editor’s pick, with a link to other editor’s picks. For example, the homepage would display the latest Editor’s pick, and the link would take you to a page with the 10 newest editor’s picks.
