In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Comments with too many linksIt’s actually not as simple as that…that number can change depending on certain variables.
2 links per comment will usually be safe.
Being that this is one element of a larger anti-spam strategy and algorithm, we are not going to be making that number editable.

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Comments with too many linksHi rperrett,
Yes, comments with many links are blocked, as this is a common signature of spam.
Please see the plugin’s documentation for an explanation of how it works. WP-SpamShield does not use moderation or the spam queue. It blocks spam completely, which improves your site’s security and performance, as noted in the documentation.
It is easy to have lively and intense discussions and debate on a site and still not use excessive numbers of links in each comment. I would recommend posting commenting guidelines/policy and let users know that the number of links per comment is limited, and ask them to abide by that. Having a commenting policy is an important part of a site.
The spam filters cannot be overridden, as they have all been placed there by design, after much research, testing, and years of experience fighting spam. You can whitelist specific users if you like, in the WP-SpamShield settings.
I hope this helps.

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Good for hijack crosss scripting tooHi Janusz,
The first example you shared is a registration spam. With these, it works a bit diffetently than comment spam tests, and all tests are run at the same time, which is is why you see several error codes. For comment spam tests, it has a very thorough gauntlet of tests, and the fastest tests are run first to ensure that it keeps your server running fast. So, only the first test it fails will show, not all of them. Don’t worry, they are not getting through. π

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] WC Vendors front-end vendor dashboard loses format@wcvendors: Thank you. I appreciate you reaching out. We haven’t heard anything further on this issue, but if do, we’ll definitely get in touch.
Hi Birgit,
I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having, but I’ll be happy to help. That’s a very strange issue to have, as we have tested the plugin thoroughly with BuddyPress and never experienced this issue. Have you tried turning off incognito mode for your browser? Keep in mind that the incognito mode on your particular browser may be interfering with the proper functioning of JavaScript and cookies, which are two core elements required for WP-SpamShield (and most websites) to work.
At the top of the support forum there is a sticky post that we ask users to read first before creating a new thread or submitting a support request, because it guides you to excellent troubleshooting options we have already put together for our plugin users.
Please take a few minutes to work through the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs, as these solve over 90% of issues users have. (Please be sure to follow all the steps, not just read through them.)
If the information provided doesn’t solve the issue for you, we’ll need a bit more info from you on the specifics, and we’ll need to email back and forth, so please head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form (our main support channel), and take a moment to fill out a support request. That will allow us to help you diagnose this, find out what the real issue is, and get things working right for you.

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Good for hijack crosss scripting tooHi remake,
Thanks for taking the time to post this great review! Thank you!! π I’m glad to hear about the blocked XSS hack attempts. We’ve designed it to prevent a number of XSS-based attacks that work just like this one. It’s always great to hear real life examples of WP-SpamShield protecting a site not just from spam, but from certain hacks as well.
Thank you for including the specific links as well. We weren’t aware of this specific WordPress vulnerability, but now it’s on our radar. It doesn’t surprise me though, as this isn’t the first time the plugin has protected its users from an unpatched WordPress vulnerability.
Stay vigilant with your website security, my friend. Have a great week!

No, it has not been fixed.

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Special FieldHi Janet,
You’re very welcome. When you say “registration form” that has two meanings in WordPress…one is the registration form for WordPress itself (Where new users sign up for memberships on your site), and the 2nd is what you mentioned in your original post…a registration/signup for for email lists.
Each of these 2 types of registration, and the contact forms, all use different mechanisms within WordPress.
Regarding email list registration/signup forms, it really will depend on what email system you are using, because it would require a plugin to adapt it to your particular email system. For example I know that there are plugins to adapt Contact Form 7 to work with MailChimp. You may want to Google around for that or contact the email list provider you are using for support.
Hope that helps.

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Special FieldHi Janet,
The contact form included with the plugin is meant to be a simple drop-in contact form for a contact page…that simply won’t get spammed. It does not have the ability add extra fields, as it is not meant to be a configurable and full-featured contact form, like some other contact form plugins out there.
However, the plugin will work with almost all other contact form plugins out there, without you having to do a thing. Just install your contact form plugin and add a form to your site, and WP-SpamShield will handle the rest. For more info on the contact form and how it works: http://www.redsandmarketing.com/plugins/wp-spamshield/installing-contact-form/
Hope that helps! Have a good one!

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] WP Spam shield tries to download a php file – don't do thisHi there technologypoet,
I’m not sure what kind of settings you’ve got going on, but the plugin doesn’t try to download any PHP files. That would not make any sense for us to do that. Your browser would only try to download a PHP file if you have made very specific modifications to your browser or server settings. Please read through the plugin documentation to get an overview of how it works.
Your
jscripts.phpfile is serving a 403 error. So you have a definite issue going on.At the top of the support forum there is a sticky post that we ask users to read because it guides you to excellent troubleshooting options we have already put together for our plugin users.

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Better than AkismetHey Peter!
Thanks for the great review! There actually is a way to check for what spam is blocked. You just need to turn on “Blocked Comment Logging Mode”. It is more secure to keep spam out of the database entirely, which is why we made he decision to not place spam in the spam folder. It makes WP-SpamShield an extra security layer in your site. All of the comment-based security vulnerabilities that existed in WordPress 4.2.1 and below were all blocked by WP-SpamShield, so sites using it were protected because of this exact feature, that we do not place spam in the spam folder. Hope that helps clarify! Have a great week!

In reply to: [WP-SpamShield] Problem with loading timeHi Borislav,
I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having and I’ll be happy to help.
The plugin is extremely optimized and will actually speed up your site. Benchmarking and speed has been a primary focus from the beginning. We’ve done extensive testing on all different combinations of servers, software, PHP versions, server loads, etc, to make sure that is scalable and efficient.
If you are having a slowdown, then you have an issue on your server that needs to get diagnosed.
There is no code in the plugin or
jscripts.phpfile that would slow your site down. WordPress site slowdowns are most often caused by undiagnosed PHP errors, configuration issues, memory issues, database issues, missing modules, old mySQL versions, and old PHP versions. At the top of the support forum there is a sticky post that we ask users to read because it guides you to excellent troubleshooting options we have already put together for our plugin users.
Please take a few minutes to work through the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs, as these solve 90% of issues users have. (Please be sure to follow all the steps, not just read through them.)
Please take special note of FAQ 15, as it specifically addresses your issue:
“Q: Will WP-SpamShield slow down my site, and is there anything I can do to optimize my site for it?” Real the full FAQ: http://www.redsandmarketing.com/plugins/wp-spamshield/faqs/#faqs_15Excerpt from the FAQ:
A: WP-SpamShield will not slow down your site, and no further optimization is necessary. It is a very efficient plugin and has been optimized to use a very light server load. Because it keeps spam out of the WordPress database, and helps prevent database bloat, it actually speeds your site up in the long term compared to a site that does not use it.
Clients hire us day in and day out to optimize their sites, and we write plugins that help improve PageSpeed, so thatβs one area we specialize in and would never let a plugin slow a site down.
Here is a breakdown…
For the rest of the FAQ, please click here to read it. Please read the full FAQ because it details our testing and benchmarking and shows how it is simply not possible for the
jscripts.phpto slow down a site.If the information provided doesn’t solve the issue for you, we’ll need a bit more info from you on the specifics, and we’ll need to email back and forth, so please head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form, and take a moment to fill out a support request.
