    Hi chitx,

You’re very welcome! I think you’ll be impressed. We’ve designed it to be the best anti-spam you can get.

If you do happen to have any issues, we have a very helpful Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs – these solve 90% of issues users have. We also provide excellent support if you need…just contact us at the WP-SpamShield Support Form. 🙂

Your monthly script that you run…have you considered using a cron job to have it run automatically on your server, and a bit more frequently, say weekly? What you’re doing should be able to run without any human intervention. Also, I should mention that blocking by IP (on the long term) is not an effective way to secure your site, so it may not be beneficial to even have such a long list of IPs. Attacker IPs change frequently (they use botnets), and are not likely to be used again after the initial attack. With brute force, you only need to block a specific IP for a short period of time, say a day or two. You’d likely be fine to dump the IP addresses that are more than a week old, or more than a few days old.

As far as security plugins go, we recommend WordFence. It has a brute force login feature and will manage all that for you without the headache.

Hope that helps! Have a good one! 🙂

    @marikamitsos:

    You’re very welcome. 🙂

Yes, the forum rules are just there to help keep things running smoothly…I don’t point that out to be a pain, but rather the fact that it makes it easier for us to help you. The forums automatically alert us to new support threads, so it makes it quicker for plugin authors to respond, as opposed to adding on to someone else’s thread, which we are not always alerted to.

Anyway, if we can help, please feel free to get in touch, and we will be happy to help. 🙂

    Hey chltx,

I’ll be happy to answer your questions.

WP-SpamShield is fully compatible with most plugins including the ones you mentioned. We have a list of known plugin conflicts (a fairly short list), and if something isn’t on that list, then it’s good to go.

WP-SpamShield is different from those plugins in that its primary focus is stopping spam:

    1. comment spam
    2. trackback spam
    3. contact form spam
    4. registration spam

Its secondary focus is improving a site’s security in the course of its duties stopping spam. Anti-spam and security are two areas that have become somewhat intertwined over time.

In contrast, your plugins have a primary focus of security, not stopping spam.

For a full list of features, please see the plugin’s main page and I think this will clarify things quite a bit: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-spamshield/ The bold headers can be considered bullet points of the plugin’s features with the paragraph following a complete description.

    Hope that helps!

@marikamitsos: Hey there. If you’re having issues please start a separate thread or contact us directly through the WP-SpamShield Support page. (The latter is the best option.) If you notice that’s in the section “Plugins that previously had compatibility issues, but are now compatible.” There’s no need to add any code, and we went and removed that altogether. The plugin takes care of the since version 1.8.9.9. If you still have further issues, feel free to use Compatibility Mode.

@frank: Hey Frank! Had a lot on our plate the last few weeks, but I’ll getting back to you soon! 🙂

    Hi movisart,

I have to ask, why would you post a negative review without even submitting a support request first?

There is no code in the plugin that would block your site. There may be a configuration issue if you’re having trouble with it.

Right on the main plugin page we have this notice:

As with any JS/CSS minification & caching plugin, it’s important to test, test, test. Because of the type of plugin it is, this plugin may not work for every site out there, but that does not mean the plugin is broken. If you have any issues, please submit a support request so we can look into it and make it as compatible as possible for everyone.

Please ask yourself this…When developers spend so much time developing free plugins for the WordPress community, is it really ok to post a 1 star review without making any reasonable effort to receive support? That’s simply not the right way to handle things.

If you have an issue with something, submit a support request first, and give the author time to respond. We provide free support for our plugins…all you have to do is submit a support request at the WordPress Plugin Support Page. We provide some of the best support out there.

I would ask that you reconsider your rating.

Well, I have to disagree with you…unfortunately you are going about this the wrong way. When a user has an issue with a plugin, the right way to proceed is to submit a support request and get in contact with the plugin author first to see if your issue can be resolved. In this case it definitely could have…it is simple a matter of explaining how the reminder message works (WordPress admin notices API).

Those messages are using the standard API for WordPress administrative notices, and that is coded the correct way. If you have a problem with how the message appears, then that is a complaint about WordPress itself, not the plugin. I think you are misunderstanding how the WordPress admin area works. These notices will stay in place until you click to make them go away, but that’s all it takes, is a click.

I’m very sorry that you felt that the reminder message was frustrating and invasive, but I don’t understand why you would feel that this is a problem, and that the plugin deserves one star, especially without even making an effort to get in touch with us to let us know about your frustration. Again, all it takes is one click to make it go away. It was never intended to frustrate anyone, but rather just be a reminder. This is the standard way of doing it in WordPress, according to developer guidelines, and many other plugins do the exact same thing.

If you don’t want to rate the plugin you’re not obligated to in any way.

In general people tend not to rate plugins very often, so the message is just a small reminder to ask users to do that after they’ve used it for a bit. You can make it go away with one click. Is that too much to ask when WordPress plugin developers put thousands of hours into developing software for the community to use for free?

Again, my sincerest apologies for any frustration this caused. Would you consider revising your rating to be based solely on how well you feel the plugin works?

    Hi ebayabuse,

I have to ask, why would you post a negative review without even submitting a support request first?

Also, I have no idea what you have said, as I don’t speak that language. Please post any questions you have in English, otherwise we have no way to help you.

    Hi Matteo,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having, but I’ll be happy to help.

We’ll need a bit more info from you on the specifics, and we’ll need to email back and forth, so please head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form (our main support channel), and take a moment to fill out a support request. That will allow us to help you diagnose this, find out what the real issue is, and get things working right for you.

Please don’t post your log info here or on any online forum. If you notice at the top of the log, and in the documentation, we ask users not to post log data in the WordPress forums:

SECURITY NOTE: DO NOT POST THIS LOG TO WORDPRESS.ORG FORUMS! (Or any online forum)

This is for your security, and for the privacy of your commenters. Thank you.

    Hi,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having and I’ll be happy to help.

If your site had an issue after the plugin was installed, then there is likely a configuration issue or conflict specific to your site. We will be happy to help you fix that.

If you haven’t had a chance to yet, please take a few minutes to work through the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs, as these solve 90% of issues users have.

If those don’t solve the issue for you, we’ll need a bit more info from you on the specifics, and we’ll need to email back and forth, so please head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form, and take a moment to fill out a support request. That will allow us to take care of this as quickly as possible for you.

    Hi Frank,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, it was necessary to add that to ensure compatibility. Jquery absolutely is necessary for WP-SpamShield, so that’s why we added the exclusion. 🙂

Feel free to get in touch with us through the WP-SpamShield Support form on our site so we can email back and forth. I’ll be happy to collaborate on alternate compatibility solutions. I have a few suggestions for Autoptimize to improve its compatibility as well.

    Hi Janusz,

That comment was properly blocked. As it was submitted, that would qualify as spam. We will be happy to help with this, but any questions regarding this need to go through our support channel (not here as these are for reviews only), and we will answer by email. Please submit a support request at the WP-SpamShield Support Form. If you notice at the top of the log, and in the documentation, we ask users not to post log data in the WordPress forums:

    Hi stefsterNYC,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having.

Just a thought…why not submit a support request first before rating? We’re here to help.

The plugin absolutely does work with WooCommerce registration. Note in the installation instructions though that we specifically instruct users to disable ALL other front end anti-spam, especially CAPTCHAs. No CAPTCHAs are needed when this is installed.

We can help you get this working. We have put together some very helpful troubleshooting documentation. Please take a few minutes to work through the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs, as these solve over 90% of issues users have.

If the information provided doesn’t solve the issue for you, we’ll need a bit more info from you on the specifics, and we’ll need to email back and forth, so please head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form (our main support channel), and take a moment to fill out a support request.
