PS I know this is an oldish topic but it’s what I kept running into in my search when I was trying to convert so I thought this might help others. I used this script and it worked flawlessly.
If you want to import users as well there’s a separate plug-in for that (do a search it’s easily found!)
Yep, that link is brilliant. I moved 100s of articles out of joomla using it with no problems at all. The beauty is that once you get the content out of Joomla and into a better system like WordPress you can move it anywhere you like (almost).
The only problem is it doesnt migrate your members or anything in the mods like guestbook entries or comments. But small price to pay for freeing yourself from Joomla IMO!!
There is a nice plug-in for importing usernames and emails tho
