  • I contacted my host (Ipage) support, and got the message down below these comments–it fixed the problem. Maybe this will help others who know how to fiddle with files directly on the host server

I had asked if there was a backup on my host, and was told there was not, so I purchased the 12.50/year package not thinking it would have a usable backup, with the horse out of the barn already, but maybe they automatically keep backups (whether you pay for them or not)or….i don’t know what else, but it seems to have worked retroactively

whatever, my site dashboard is back up

    Hello Bob,

I have restored the wp-admin folder from the backup and now the WordPress dashboard at: http://www.permaculturebob.com/wp-admin/ is displaying fine. You can upgrade the WordPress application now. Please check once again and if there any issues, let us know.

Yes, my dashboard looks just like that and web site seems to work fine

I was even able to type up a post, upload media, insert media, but then could not get to the publish button because it’s like there are two layers, and it was underneath.

I saw an error message –automatic update failed—
trying to update to 4.5 i could not access the button, likewise with the update retry button near the error message

same appearance as fanatstickmath my site mostly loads and works ok, dashboard is problem, some of the menu items function, I was able to do a post, upload media, then could not publish it because the button seemed hidden behind other active content.

Same with trying to redo the automatic update button, or the update to 4.5 at the bottom of the dashboard page

    thanks everybody

i went back to paypal, got a fresh copy of the code and pasted it in under text mode and it worked fine

thank’s for your help and patience

perhaps when i first pasted the code into the page i did it in visual mode and from there on out the copy got corrupted–whatever it was it seems to be ok now, thank you again

    thank you for responding

something very interesting happened when i tried to use your prefix and suffix

at first i simply altered the code pay pal had given starting with

    <form action=”https://www.paypal&#8230;./form>

    replacing the < with a <
and on the end replaced the /form> with </form>

    and nothing happened

then i did a second trial simply adding on the prefix and suffix you suggested even though it duplicated a half a line of code already in the paypal code and left a second unaltered copy of the code paypal supplied below on the same page

and when i went to view the updated draft both the altered code and the unaltered code appeared the same

when i put ‘ …’ around the code it came up the same but with the backticks around it

i don’t understand the “allowed markup” instructions so i haven’t done that

i’m reluctant to publish this page with the full code paypal gave me since i’m not sure if there might be security issues, although if you think that would help let me know and i can publish it temporarily so that you can see what it looks like
