That could be your problem. Maybe consider a better host. Ive found that most of the time a slow WP admin is due to the web host.
Otherwise you could try:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress
– optimize your database

In reply to: child theme vs pluginCan’t really say what’s causing your particular problem, but yes a poorly created theme can cause problems with plugins and vice versa.

In reply to: Constant error messages from themeAs it’s a commercial theme you should seek support from the place you purchased it about your theme problems.
If you can’t access your WP admin, log in via FTP and remove the theme. Your site will revert back to use the default WordPress theme and you will be able to access / log into your site again. You can then sort out the theme issues.

However you might be easier just to find a theme which has a tabbed widget and just take and modify the code to suit your needs rather than building from scratch.

In reply to: Adding new themeIt’s a commercial theme so just the instructions or tutorials section on their site. Also just check you are uploading only the theme zip file, and not a zip file which includes the theme along with other stuff.

Two comments. The main content column is probably a bit too wide for easy reading. Having the social sharing icons on the post excerpts is probably not very useful, plus they take up too much space and detract from the overall clean, content focused design.
