However, if two articles are published the same day, the first article does not show a publication date, only the second one, the newer one does.

OK, if I edit the image, it gives four options for linking:
Media file
Attachment page
Other URL
Nothing(or something along those lines; I translated them from Finnish)
None of these will make the excerpt image a link to the actual post, unless I specify the URL in the option “Other URL” as the post’s URL. That would be a little too much work as our newscasters are used to less work. So, is Steve right in saying that nothing more can be done about this?

There was a problem with the theme. In excerps, both featured images and added media images showed up. That’s why the author of the theme advised this:
“You can hide post thumbnail to hide first image. Please follow seopress options > Blog options > Thumbnail on Archive Post AND Thumbnail on Single Post (disable both).”
I don’t know if that has any bearing on this, but I thought I’d bring it up just in case.

“Also the_excerpt function exclude images of post but i do not know, why
