In reply to: [Advanced Custom Fields (ACF®)] ACF Field not displaying on Front EndThanks.
I didn’t realise I needed to edit the template php. But it was fairly simple, I just copied the script for the title and pasted it below, then updated the css and it’s working now! Fantastic, thanks for your quick help!

Do you have any idea what I should search on Stackoverflow? I’ve looked but not found anything but I’m not sure if I’m using the right keywords to get the kind of results I need. Thanks again.

In reply to: Apply CSS to specific Post Template? That worked – Thanks!
I was always placing the ‘p’ first, I didn’t realise it went after. Thanks a ton!

In reply to: Create Product Data Once, use many times?Thank you for commenting, @sc0ttkclark.
I’ll take another look at Pods, thank you. Last time I looked at it was about a year ago, and that’s when I seem to remember seeing something like this as one of its features. But, like I said, I was concerned when I looked again receently and couldn’t see any new tuts, etc.
But if you are updating this year then it’s clearly still an ongoing project so I’m glad to hear that and will give it a go.
FYI What specifically deterred me was — when I went to the Pods website and clicked on ‘Tutorials’ then ‘Learn Pods Basics From OSTraining’ — the second video in that series instructs that to use Pods we must install the plugins:
#1 Pods – Custom Content Types and Fields
#2 Pods Frontier Auto TemplateBut when I tried to do that the #2 plugin wasn’t available and I couldn’t find anything about it on your site, or Googling. So I realised that tut was probably dated, then when I saw all the vids on the Pods channel were also old I realised I would probably get stuck if things were missing, etc.
As a Pods beginner, what sequence of tutorials or documents would you recommend for me to follow to get Pods working for me — in addition to the vid you linked to? If the ‘Learn Pods Basics From OSTraining’ relies on the ‘Pods Frontier Auto Template’ what should I use instead, or don’t you think that training should be followed any longer?
Thanks again for helping solve this problem.

In reply to: Create Product Data Once, use many times? So, say I have 10 cameras, each with a data table displaying their specific details re: shuuter speed, aperture, dpi, etc
Then I create a dedicated page reviewing each camera, including this table with their important data in table format for easy reference.
Then I want to compare each camera with each camera. That would mean REPEATING each camera’s data table 9x (is my math correct on that?)
BUT if I already had each data table ‘set up’, like in a database, and there was some way of referencing that table, maybe through a shortcode, then I would only have to enter the data once but use it the 9x afterwards.
I assumed something like ACF would do this, but cannot figure out if it does.
I Think ‘Pods’ does this, but they don’t seem to be updating recently, and all their tutorials are 5+ years old, which isn’t encouraging.

In reply to: Enable / Disable Gutenberg by Category@bcworkz Thank you very much!
I had no idea I could do that with the Classic Editor plugin. I’ve been messing around for hours trying to make that script work and all the time I had a plugin that could do it. Thank you.
Now, just from curiosity — is that the ‘best’ plugin to do this job? I know there are others, but I just tend to stick with what’s already there, but I thought I’d ask. Thanks again for your help.

In reply to: Can’t increase max upload limit! Thanks — I’d already done 3 of those: the php.ini file, the wp-config file and tried a plugin. But now I’ve ALSO made changes to the htaccess and functions file, something worked!

In reply to: Add image overlay to featured image?Yes, but for my usage I would need the ‘Scale’ package, which is $149 per month and therefore way outside my price range, sadyly.

In reply to: Add image overlay to featured image? Thanks again @alanfuller
Yes, when I write ‘plugin’ I’m actually meaning ‘custom-built plugin’ and I’m not thinking there might already be one I can get hold of off-the-shelf.
And, yes, I assumed that any potential solution would require some deep custom coding, but thanks for the clarification.
To be honest, I wasnt’ even sure if this would be possible, within a site, without going to a 3rd party SAAS or running a separate installation to do this. But maybe that’s what you mean too.
I guess it wouldn’t matter, though, either way. I have a decent (dedicated) server so I could probably host a solution either within the site installation or as a separate thing.
Thanks again for your help — it’s given me a lot of food for thought.
If you know any other libraries or resources I could check out, I’d appreciate that too — but you’ve already given me a lot more useful feedback than I expected. So thanks again.
EDIT: The 3rd party solution I referred to was bannerbear ( https://www bannerbear com ), which is kind of what got me thinking this way. Although their sub is a bit pricey for me and I would have to create automations to send to it, then import from it, which would themselves be quite extensive, so doing it inhouse seems like a better approach, if it’s possible.

In reply to: Add image overlay to featured image?Extremely helpful reply @alanfuller thank you.
Yes, there are a lot of posts each day, so the first option you suggest, of creating 2 different images, would become a little overwhelming.
And I’m not sure I would be able to convert all images to svgs — the majority of them are jpgs and I would then have to find some automated way of doing that.
Is there any way that images could be converted to svgs within the WP ecosystem?
(Again, via a plugin or addon script)I’m not sure if, in your last paragraph, you are saying that using svgs vs html-to-img are the only remaining alternatives?
Could html-to-img be done within a WP site? (I know a couple of services that provide that via Zapier (etc) on a monthly sub)
Thanks again for your very helpful response, it’s quite surprised me!
Hello @wpallimport
yes, it does clear up the matter, but over a week late.
I run an online business also, and no customer ever has to wait more than 6-12 hours for a reply.
In fact, after giving up on getting either a prompt or helpful reply from you either here or elsewhere, I turned to Upwork and paid someone to help.
So, yes, the [date(“Y-m-d”)] is the solution I am using, but have been using it for at least a week now, before you found time in your busy schedule.
In case you’re also considering getting around to any of my other support requests, don’t bother, the developer I paid has answered them all.
Like I said before, it’s a great plugin but the documentation and support are appalling. Some of the worst I’ve experienced.
You take weeks to reply — and your video tutorials are years old (some as old as 10 years). At the price you charge for your plugin you could at least show a little respect for your paying customers by providing up to date ‘help’. But it’s clear you don’t care.
Shame on you.

Hello,
thank you for your reply.Yes, you did answer my support request, but your reply wasn’t very helpful. I asked the same question via support but your answer was:
“If you’re wanting to import today’s date, your file could provide “today” (without quotes) as a value. Otherwise, your file could provide the desired date.”
Which, quite honestly, I thought was a joke. Because I asked how to put ‘today’s date’, which means, how do I ensure that the current day’s date appears. And you answer, that I should add the word ‘today’. Which is not what I asked.
Or you suggest I add the current day’s date to the imported file. If that was possible then I wouldn’t have to ask how to do it with the plugin.
So, I have been asking developers the same question, to try and solve this problem, because your support couldn’t answer it.
But now you answer here and give a different answer. Unfortunately, it ALSO is not helping me.
The link you give is to a page which DOES NOT tell me how to ensure the current day’s date (today’s date) will appear.
I am not a php developer. I do not know how to do this with pho. I was asking you how. And now I have written to you for a third time asking the same question, perhaps this time you can simply provide me the line of code I need to add to the fields to get the current day’s date and we can move on.
I really don’t understand why it’s so difficult to answer properly.
This is how you get bad reviews for a great plugin!Forum: Plugins

In reply to: Record Admin keystroke input? But this restless mind of mine is wondering: if you don’t trust your provider, why do you continue to work with him/her?
= at my end of the budget spectrum, I work with anyone who can do the work I need done at the price I can pay. Which does mean I have a TON of experience with the worst, ‘cowboys’, ‘fly-by-nights’ and bullsh1tters you can imagine.
Just visit the bargain basement in Upwork (or any other freelance market) and post a job then conduct a few interviews, you’ll see what I mean!
My options here are to start again, or patronise this guy if I can record the licence key. Which should be mine anyway!

In reply to: How do I migrate large site without its content?Thank you for your reply. That makes sense!
Do you know of a good tutorial / article which describes this process in detail?
I haven’t yet found an article that describes exactly what I am trying to do, manually.
Following your post, I have compressed and downloaded the contents of my Public directory for the source site (when it was on my desktop I went into the uploads folder and deleted a few 100s of uploads I don’t need, and some log files and backups from plugins)
Then I exported the source site Database.
I guess it’s a simple matter of uploading the public directory files to the new account’s public directory, and importing the sql files into the new account’s phpmyadmin.
But it’s the next part which I’m less clear about.
I know I have to update the config file with the new site name / username / password / DB details, etc — but what else do I need to consider.
What considerations do I need to keep in mind, if I’m using the site for domain1.com and installing it on the account for domain2.com ?
Many thanks.
