In reply to: [Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator] GDPR compliance?TL; DR : Yes, the plugin is GDPR compliant.
From the website visitors point of view, the plugin is transparent. It is as if the website administrator had setup the favicon (files, HTML code…) manually. So no cookies and no tracking features.
From the website administrator (probably you or a colleague), the plugin stores information locally, in your WordPress instance. In particular, it stores your favicon settings in order to re-generate your icons in case of service update. When generating your icons for the first time or manually updating them, the service itself stores no personal data (your images are deleted afterward), and Google Analytics is triggered (which is GDPR compliant). When your icons are re-generated automatically, this is the same process, but without Google Analytics.

In reply to: [Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator] How to use it without a pluginI’m not sure π
I advice you to run the favicon compatibility test with the browsers you target. The test is using different images as icons, so you can see which one it picked by a browser or another. With this information, you know which icons are important for you and can select the suitable files and code.
However, as the favicon package is rather light, my advice is to take everything, instead of cherry picking components one by one.

In reply to: [Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator] How to use it without a pluginHi,
First, the plugin is super-light, really.
If you don’t want to use it, you can:
- Use WordPress builtin Site Icon. There are much less possibilities than with RealFaviconGenerator, but it’s very decent nonetheless.
- Use RealFaviconGenerator as a standalone service, download the generated images and HTML code, and install them manually.
Kind Regards,

In reply to: [Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator] favicon.ico emptyMaybe that was because your site does not return genuine “404” errors, but human readable errors pages (with a “200” status). In other words, if accessing https://www.example.com/favicon.ico gives a page such as “This files does not exist” with a 200, the favicon checker thinks favicon.ico exists… but is ill-formed (of course, since HTML is returned in place of an ICO in this scenario).
If that’s the case, this is quite harmless, although genuine 404 errors are a better way to handle invalid accesses.
