I think I now have the answer (still to be confirmed but working on it).
The Thrive Leads landing page was redirecting all pages to itself because I had the wrong settings (all pages to trigger a redirect to that page).
So if anyone has a lead generation type plugin which redirects make sure that it does not operate on your login page!
