You are right. Did you look at appearance>customize. Is your sample page in your post section?
Maybe try deleting your hello world post and see what happens

The problem is you logo div is inside the container. The container is max-width of only 960px. You will have to create a child theme and copy the header.php file into your child theme and edit from there. To learn how to create a child theme, go to this link How to build a child theme
From there you’ll have to take the logo div outside the container div.
It’s not an easy solution but will get the job done with no problems.

if you go to this link Removing footer credits you can get a snippet to include in your child theme’s function.php.
In order to make a child theme you can go to Child themes.
then copy footer.php from your original theme into your child themes folder. And then you can edit the footer.php in your child theme folder.

Can you post a link? Its mostly has to do with padding and margins. Probably try this in your child theme or your custom css.
.carousel{margin-top:15px;}
and just adjust the pixels depending on how far you want it down
