Interesting. I don’t have that email, and I don’t ever remember seeing it previously.
This irks me considerably:
“Premium add-ons will continue receiving updates until October 31, 2025.“
And after that, they will undoubtedly break at some point and become useless, ruining your site unless you take an annual subscription.
Not the first time I’ve had software which sold me a supposed “lifetime” licence, then tried to subtly force me into an ongoing subscription. Very shady practice, and I ditched the last software that did this.
I don’t object to paying for software, but for a simple hobbyist site which makes no money, ongoing subscriptions beyond the web hosting fees aren’t really feasible, that’s why I specifically look for plugins with a one-off payment. So I guess I’ll have to start looking for an alternative, or redesigning my site and removing this plugin.
I get why they might need to move to subscriptions, I really do. But if you’ve sold someone a “lifetime” licence (or 3 in my case), my feeling is that it should be honoured. I’m sure they could work it so that existing “lifetime” licence owners got a lifetime Pro licence, even if they don’t sell them to new customers.
Awesome. Thanks!
