    Thank you Samuel B. Does that mean that all simple changes like text colour header size and things like that? Or, bigger things like html programming stuff, which I can’t do anyhow?

    I have never made a child theme, but will check out the instructions. I am not very technical at all.

    Thank you again ChristiNi and thank you also lenin975. I will take a look at ‘all in one seo’.

    Hi ChristiNi,

    Thank you very much for that suggestion. I will definitely be checking out the plugins. Do the plugins come with information on how to use?

    Over the past 3 months that I have been building my website, I have found these forums so helpful.

    Regards and thanks again. 🙂

    I will try that and hope there is step by step info. Thanks esmi 🙂

    Hi, As PSM Digital advised, you create the link from your Page Editor.

    When you go into Pages from your Dashboard and choose the page you wish to edit, then type the word you wish to use as your link e.g. Home
    next highlight the word (Home in this case;
    next go to the tool bar at the top of your edit box and choose the link symbol (it looks like a bit of link fencing!) then you can either type in a url, or directing to another page on your website (in this case Home) double click on that page from the list and hey presto the task is complete.
    I struggled with this and could not believe how easy it was. I have lots of links on my site now 🙂 Hope this helps.

    Hi and thank you so much for your information. It works. The image that I was using had been cropped and was too small. All that I needed to do was to upload another, bigger image and then to follow your instructions. Thanks again and the best of luck with your business. :o)

    Hi Nicolectro, What are you trying to do with Mantra? I don’t know much and am learning, but I have now managed to resize the header, from information that I found on one wordpress thread. Is this what you are trying to do, change the header size? If so, I can give you the information.

    I finally figured out that my website host has to enable access to write to files. This is now done, but when I follow as you have kindly said, all that happens is the background stretches way down the page and moves the tabs down. The header stays exactly the same. Any suggestions please? I have also contact Mantra designers to ask and awaiting a response.

    Just had a quick look before I go and I have found the place you directed me to. Yippeee! This is what I see:
    ………………
    // The height and width of your custom header. You can hook into the theme’s own filters to change these values.
    // Add a filter to mantra_header_image_width and mantra_header_image_height to change these values.
    global $totalSize;
    define( ‘HEADER_IMAGE_WIDTH’, apply_filters( ‘mantra_header_image_width’, $totalSize ) );
    define( ‘HEADER_IMAGE_HEIGHT’, apply_filters( ‘mantra_header_image_height’, 90 ) );
    ……………….

    where the text says:
    ……………………………………
    define( ‘HEADER_IMAGE_WIDTH’, apply_filters( ‘mantra_header_image_width’, $totalSize ) );
    …………………………………….
    can I delete $totalSize ) );
    or do I just leave a space after $totalSize and add in the width that I require?

    Also, at the bottom of the edit box, there is some grey text which says:
    ……………………..
    You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.
    ………………………
    Did you have to do that, or is it not necessary for these changes?

    Oh, thank you so very much! That is wonderful information. I have to go out now, but will be trying that later. It is certainly not easy trying to do everything yourself, but very satisfying when it comes up right.
    Thank goodness for people like yourself, who are will to share information. 🙂

    I will let you know how I get on.

    Hi careercreatrix,
    Thank you for taking the time to respond. This is causing me some grief!
    Sorry to sound so dense – I am unsure where to look in the first place to find where the filter!
    I cannot find anything like this on Mantra Theme Settings, nor on Header settings.

    Hi careercreatrix and alchymyth, I am using Mantra theme and my banner looks totally silly! I would like to extend height and the length.
    Please could you tell me exactly where you found the functions.php?

    Hi, I am totally new to WordPress had my website converted so that I could manage changes without having to pay the huge fees the web designer was asking me for. Now I find that although I can get my head around some aspects of WordPress … other things baffle me!
    My site is http://www.intermarket-events.co.uk and I am slowly adding content and making changes. May be twenty twelve is the wrong theme for what I am trying to do. I do not want a blog but a small business website – figured out how to turn off comments, so that’s ok now.
    From reading the posts above on child themes, I understand that this is what I need to create, in order to get rid of all the white space and to force my text up.
    Despite reading above guide and also reading WP section on ‘child themes’ – I still have no clue where to start! :/
    Is anyone able to give a bullet point on how to make myself a child theme – including where to go to create it?
    Thanks so much for reading

    I have been trying for 2 days to get rid of the comments box on the front of my website. I have just changed my website to WordPress.org, because many people said that it was really easy to use. The person who wrote my original website was charging me a lot of money to change even a word. I thought that WordPress would be the best solution.
    However, my website looks like a blog …. not what I want as trying to start a small business.

    Not sure that I know how to do what lockettpots suggests, but I will try and see. I even went to the Waterstones to check out WordPress for dummies, but as far as I could see there was nothing in there, or it was so technical that I couldn’t find it!
