Ok, this is a workaround, and does not address the root cause (that the HTML mode editor is flakely).I opened the post in the HTML editor, and switched to Visual mode. I selected the post (in visual mode) and copied to the clipboard. Then I clicked update post. As expected, the post contents disappeared. I stayed in Visual mode and posted the contents from the clipboard and clicked Update post again.
Now the contents are appearing on the blog just fine. I’ve deleted the static page I had created, and marked this issue as ‘resolved’ on this support forum.

The “testing” post was ok, with a single sentence of content, but the “10-10-10 Progress Update” is the post with the problems.Here is a static page that contains the contents that are not being displayed for some reason, in case someone can spot the problem with the HTML (if that is the problem):
