I reset to the default permalink setting and I have both About and Archive working again.
I don’t fully understand yet, but this was a great help.
Now I can get on with life and refine in the future.

When I go to the About page (in wp-admin), I can see the default text when I edit the page. But, when I try to view the page, I get the 404 error code.
I am able to post to the blog, but when I try to access the About or Archive pages, I get the “404 Not Found” error code.
If I switch between different themes, I continue to have this problem.
