I deleted everything and reinstalled WordPress on my server from scratch via FTP. Seems to be working now – thank you for your advice!
I really appreciate the time you took to assist, kjodle.
After I posted my request, I decided to delete my latest post as I did fiddle a bit with some of the HTML functions in that post as I was trying to resize a video.
Once I deleted that post, like you I noticed my website was running at normal speed again but my wp-admin site was down.
I ended up manually reinstalling the new WP via ftp and it seems to be working okay now.
