Thanks for the reply. I restored to a backup from the day before and it still wouldn’t work! I went back and did it again – this time to a few weeks before – and thankfully it’s working.

I’m so glad for backups! Thanks for the advice – I appreciate it!

    Hi again,
If there is any chance of getting some more help to fix this problem I would be so grateful.

I tried all the options suggested with no joy.

The error message that I got is below. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Or alternatively. Is there any way that I can even manage the content on the page without access to admin in the meantime? Just to add some text. It really is important that I can do it soon.

[Wed May 03 00:01:33.049224 2017] [autoindex:error] [pid 629279:tid 139795514717952] [client 217.182.132.52:22142] AH01276: Cannot serve directory /home/mediainstitute/public_html/downloads/pdf_2006/S5_New Applications/7_Hardy/: No matching DirectoryIndex (index.html.var,index.htm,index.html,index.xhtml,index.wml,index.perl,index.pl,index.plx,index.ppl,index.cgi,index.jsp,index.js,index.jp,index.php4,index.php3,index.php,index.phtml,index.shtml,default.htm,default.html,home.htm,index.php5,Default.html,Default.htm,home.html,welcome.html) found, and server-generated directory index forbidden by Options directive

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for all the detailed advice. I’ve gone through it all now with no success.

I manually reset my plugins – to no effect. Still a blank screen on the admin end.

I renamed the theme folders (adult and child) and that also didn’t work. Stilla white screen on the backend, as well as a white screen on the front end (it seems the default theme did not kick in).

I tried renaming the htaccess file too – no joy unfortunately.

I accessed what I think are the error logs – my cpanel is laid out a bit differently to how godaddy explains – but I think it’s right! There was just one error in there for today – and it’s pasted below. Does it help?

Thanks again – I really appreciate the help!

Ok – I tried to manually reinstall wordpress – and now I just have a plain white screen on the admin end with no error message.

Ok – I tried renaming the theme folder – just the parent, and then both. I still couldn’t access the backend admin area.

My site also didn’t force itself back to the default theme – I just got this error:
The parent theme is missing. Please install the “sparkling” parent theme.
The same when the child theme was missing.

Also – I have a theme installed – Sparkling, but also have a child theme. Do I need to get rid of both?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

If I do that and it is a problem with the theme – what then? I’m reluctant to screw up the front end of the site – it’s a particularly active time for people looking at this site – it’s for a conference.

    Thanks!
