I didn’t find a perfect plug-in for my needs, but I did find WP members.
You just add a little code to your post and thereafter, the content is protected and requires member sign-in.
I found the administrator side a little clumsy, but it’ll do for now. Hope to find something better, so if you do discover something, please share!
Odd. Some of my code disappears from above when I post. I’ll try adding some spaces to see if that makes a difference.
It should have read:

I tried inserting <target=”_blank”>
But I must be doing it wrong – it didn’t open a new page.
