wpbum: since I went the wp-admin/update-core.php and then went back to the this page again, I’m now getting the 3.0 upgrade notification. Something was stuck I guess and for some crazy reason the notification was not showing.

You have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to upgrade. However, if you want to re-install version 2.9.2, you can do so automatically or download the package and re-install manually:
