never mind I found it – for anyone else with the same problem, ensure that “details” is ticked in your screen options, and under “teams” it will say “auto” – just click it onto manual and it will return to the old way.

Also to save me starting another thread, is it possible to make ONLY the teams in the league set show up in the drop box on the events adding page? I will have multiple different teams from different leagues who will potentially have the same name (I already have 2 teams called “Eagles” in 2 different leagues, but they both show up when trying to create an event for one of the leagues).
