In reply to: Blog Backup and Restore to localhostI tried it with a “new” installation. Going back to WordPress 3.1.4 (as the Importer needs 3.0 and newer, whereas blogsport still uses 1.5.1.2.). I again used the 17 parts of the XML-Backup. I realized, that from the comments only the last one to an article was imported, although the other comments can be found in the XML file.

In reply to: Blog Backup and Restore to localhostNo, I never attempted to restore the backup files so far. This is my first attempt at a lokal installation. In the past I made backups using HTTrack or Webspider even Acrobat and Sitesucker under OS X (I can dual boot, but come from the Windows world.)
(Funny, that we both ended in the same corner, I posted first and read later.)Forum: Localhost Installs
In reply to: Blog Backup and Restore to localhostMeanwhile I tried it with a split file: With WordPress WXR File Splitter (RSS XML) http://www.rangerpretzel.com/content/view/20/1/ I split the Backup file in 17 pieces. But it did not help either: Still only some 600 comments retrieved.

In reply to: Blog Backup and Restore to localhostThe Blog is hosted at blogsport.de. At the bottom of my blog it says it is running on “1.5.1.2”.
I have made XML files in WXR format for years. They are roughly 30 MB now after some 800 articles and 13.000 comments.
