To all who responded many thanks. I am none the wiser regarding what I thought was a fundamental question, so will call it a day.

Instant wordpress is a locally installed package i.e. there is no website as such.

    I install
    I use dashboard
I go to the home page
    I do no changes
    I update
The page as viewed is now different to as installed

Certainly. I am trying to use Instant WordPress to learn about the WordPress product. I install a clean WordPress. I use dashboard and go to edit the home page. The text takes up a certain width of the page. If I do nothing at all, but update the page the text takes up a different width. This I do not understand. How do I make it take up the same width as the original installed info?

I hear what you say, but as I am at the start of my learning curve using instant wordpress
and can re-install at any time (new twenty eleven) it matters not that I am updating the installed file.

Well perhaps I am thicker than thick and the answer to my query is obvious – sadly so be it – perhaps I will never know the why and the how, so let me ask it another way. I have installed instant wordpress opened the dashboard, gone to the home page and without changing a thing did update. The format of the page has changed – simple question, why and how do I stop it doing that?
