Got it! I started from scratch and carefully followed this guideline. I kept having one little problem and eventually worked out that in the address line I was including a redundant folder name instead of simply “localhost:port/wp-login.php”. I appreciate your comments, Clayton, which got me back on course. Not bad for a 77 yo geezer. Now I can start learning WordPress. I’ve just about had it with Dreamweaver and Adobe’s extortion.
Thanks, Clayton. You pointed out in para 2 one of the mistakes I was making. I’m sure there are others. I tried to follow the instructions in the guidelines from the link you provided but seem to have gone astray. I deleted MAMP, WordPress, etc., and plan to just start all over again with a new installation.
