Most likely this is due to a conflict with other plugins. This plugin was tested on a site with 1000 posts, and had no problems.

By default, the plugin does not work on the home page. There are several reasons for this. For example the use on the home page a set of widgets and plugins that can lead to conflict.
For enabling plugin on the main page, set option:
WordPress Settings -> WP Browser -> Options [tab] -> Using at the home page
